ATHC West (Hutchinson)

  • ATHC-West in Hutchinson opened its doors the end of January 2001.  Upon opening we sensed the need of our aging population and wanted to serve them closer to their homes.  This is how ATHC-WEST came about.  With many of our individuals living in the Hutchinson area and having harder times with the long ride to work, we have been able to develop a program to meet their ever changing needs.  Designed as a duplicate program to ATHC-Winsted, West offers the same opportunities for all consumers based on age, skill level, and abilities.  Consumers that attend the West site are not only from the Hutchinson area, but Glencoe, Stewart, Brownton and Cokato.  Transportation services are provided by ATHC with the use of mini vans, 15 passenger vans, and public transportation Trailblazer Transit of McLeod and Sibley counties.

  • At this time, ATHC-West serves 34 individuals of all ages and abilities and individualizes each person's program as needed.  10 staff strive each day to develop new ideas for our program and act on these ideas to make our program better for the people we serve.  A variety of vocational opportunities are offered throughout the year and consist of packaging and assembly work, paper shredding, and various in-house cleaning opportunities.  Skills are worked on and developed to increase independence and the opportunity for community based employment.

  • West also provides a Non-vocational program for many individuals.  Whether it is baking pies, making scarecrows, playing group games, having group discussion or taking part in community activities, this group strives to be more creative each day and offer more to the consumers taking part.  Whether it is full-time, part-time or just a couple times a week, an individual is able to determine what they would like to participate in.
